SCAD presents the annual Jacob and Gwendolyn Knight Lawrence Lecture, this year featuring artist Hank Willis Thomas. The artist will discuss his practice, as well as recent projects that engage collaboration, community participation and activism. Thomas will also address his recent site-specific commission for the SCAD Museum of Art, "Blind Memory" and explore the role of the artist in society.
This lecture is supported annually through an endowment from the Jacob and Gwendolyn Knight Lawrence Foundation and is free and open to the public.
Thomas’ exhibitions "Blind Memory" and "Freedom Isn’t Always Beautiful" are on view at SCAD Museum of Art Tuesday, Feb. 21 through Sunday, Aug. 20, 2017, and Tuesday, Feb. 21 through Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017, respectively.
This event is part of deFINE ART 2017, held Feb. 21–24 at SCAD locations in Savannah and Atlanta, Georgia, and Hong Kong. DeFINE ART is an annual program of exhibitions, lectures, performances and public events that highlights emerging and established artists and visionaries.
